The Orchestra at Melbourne High School in Melbourne, FL is a 130+ member program featuring five string orchestra classes, IB Music, and Tri-M Music Honors Society Chapter 2722. The MHS Orchestra seeks to create lifelong musicians who respect and care for the world around them while maintaining a high standard of performance. Consistently earning Superior ratings at District and State Music Performance Assessment, "Mel High" Orchestra students are well-rounded individuals, striving for personal academic achievement while also participating in various sports, clubs, and activities on- and off-campus. The music programs at Melbourne High are strongly supported by our outstanding community, administration, school staff, alumni, and parents.
The Chamber Orchestra at Melbourne High performed for the 2021 Florida Music Education Association State Conference President's Concert. The Chamber Orchestra was selected from ensembles across the state of Florida to perform in this concert, the most prestigious honor in the state of Florida. In 2022, the Chamber Orchestra competed in the National Orchestra Festival at the American String Teachers Association National Conference in Atlanta, GA. The Chamber Orchestra performed again at the 2023 ASTA NOF in Orlando, FL. The Orchestra Director is Michelle Eggen, cellist and graduate of the Florida State University with Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education, and the String specialist is Paul Jackson, violinist and graduate of Hope College with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and the University of Florida with a Master of Music Education degree. Both Mrs. Eggen and Mr. Jackson play in local symphony orchestras and are active judges and clinicians.
