The Orchestra at Melbourne High School in Melbourne, FL is a 140+ member program featuring five string orchestra classes, a symphony orchestra, IB Music, Tri-M Music Honors Society, and Happy Harmonies, a community outreach group. The MHS Orchestra seeks to create lifelong musicians who respect and care for the world around them while maintaining a high standard of performance. Consistently earning Superior ratings at District and State Music Performance Assessment, "Mel High" Orchestra students are well-rounded individuals, striving for personal academic achievement while also participating in various sports, clubs, and activities on- and off-campus.
The Chamber Orchestra at Melbourne High performed for the 2021 Florida Music Education Association State Conference President's Concert. The Chamber Orchestra was selected from ensembles across the state of Florida to perform in this concert, the most prestigious honor in the state of Florida.
The Orchestra Director is Michelle Eggen, cellist and graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelors and Masters in Music Education, and the String Consultant is Gary Mousseau, bassist and graduate of University of South Florida with a Bachelors in Music Education. Both Mrs. Eggen and Mr. Mousseau play in the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and are active judges and clinicians.
